U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Wetlands Inventory (NWI) (2008-2011): In 2008 3PPI was awarded a 5-year service contract with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to provide wetland/riparian mapping on digital aerial photography, wetland status and trends studies, and airborne acquisition of geographic information in digital form. The contract ended in 2011 when the maximum funding limit was reached. Seven task orders were awarded to 3PPI under this project. These tasks include adding landform and water flow path attributes to wetland polygons on existing digital NWI maps, mapping wetlands on different eras of aerial imagery as part of a national wetlands status and trend study, digitizing hardcopy wetlands maps, and developing new wetland map data in selected areas of Alaska. This project has provided 3PPI staff with further experience in implementing and mapping the Cowardin (1979) classification system for wetland vegetation adopted by the NWI.

The NWI projects include digital wetlands mapping on Alaska’s North Slope, enhanced wetlands mapping in the Palmer, Alaska area, and wetland status and trends mapping and field data collection in Washington, Oregon, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey
